Hard Drive Back Up

The method of backing up your hard drive is determined by which operating system you are using and which back up software program you purchase, as discussed above.

TIP:  For those really important, irreplaceable files – such as photos and addresses – I suggest making an inexpensive removable back up of your  personal data files that you can store away from your computer (such as a safe deposit box). I would repeat this process every 3 months or so.  Just remember, even if you back up every day, it will do no good in the case of fire, flood or theft.  Store a back up copy away from your computer.

TIP:  Keep several back up copies. Only back up over a prior back up if you have one other spare - keep at least one or two copies over time so that you can back up more than one version if necessary. Remember, a problem that is backed up will remain a problem when restored!

TIP:  When you back up your files and your hard drive, you are backing up everything – including spyware, viruses and errors.  Make certain you perform all the Internal Housekeeping before backing up.
